TRAVEL | My Top Holiday Picks Portugal 2017!

I don't know about all of you but I am so excited for summer! It is definitely one of my favourite times of the year and it makes me a very happy person. Not only me but everyone tends to be in a better mood because the weather is, generally, nicer and there is so much more to do! To me summer is an excuse to get out of the house, or even better the country and enjoy a holiday. My first holiday of 2017 is to Portugal on Saturday with my sister and my boyfriend and we are going to the same place that Scott and I went last year because we loved it so much. Packing for holidays, if your like me and leave it until the last minute, can be a tad stressful. Therefore, I thought that I would share my top picks of items that I could not be without on holiday!

Suntan Lotion
I have been using this suntan lotion for so long now that I will not use anything else. It is from Hawaiian Tropics' Silk Hydration range. I do buy both factor 30 and 15 and use them at different stages of my holiday. Firstly, it smells amazing and always makes me think of being on holiday. Secondly, a little goes such a long way which is always a good thing when trying to pack light on an airplane! Lastly, not only does it protect your skin from the sun and UV it also leaves you skin feeling nourished and full of hydration, which I always feel like my skin is lacking after a being in the sunshine all day.
I also buy the Hawaiian Tropics Silk Hydration face lotion because specifically formulated for the sensitive skin on your face. It provides up to 12 hours of protection whilst being lightweight, oil free and water resistant so you are still covered even if swimming in the pool or the sea. It again has the same hydrating factors as the body lotion and the same iconic coconut smell.

After Sun
This is again from the Hawaiian Tropics' Silk Hydration range because obviously I have to keep the continuity of the brand. No honestly, they are the best that I have tried in a long time and hence why I am always so keen to keep using it. Again this product also has the same hydrating qualities and it nourishes and calms your skin, with Aloe, after a full day of sunshine and it lasts for up to 24 hours; which is amazing. The after sun has a slightly different fragrance which is a mix of coconut and papaya which smells so refreshing  after a long day in the sun!

Scalp Protector
This is actually the first time I have bought this product specifically but I always tend to get something to protect my scalp as it is very sensitive. I used to just buy a heat protect spray that you would normally use when applying a hair tool and it worked quite well however when I saw this in the shop I thought I would try it. It is a protective spray for hair, partings and thinning hair, this specific one is factor 15 which is medium protection. It claims to be very water resistant, sweat resistant, non-greasy and quick drying which are also great features when on holiday!

A Good Book(s)
This is entirely dependant on the type of holiday that you are going on, however all that we have planned is to either lounge by the pool or sunbathe on the beach so this is definitely a must have. I cannot sit for a long time without having somethings to entertain myself with, thankfully the hotel has Wifi so I can watch YouTube videos but when we go to the beach I love to read a book. I think I am going to download a few onto my phone but I haven't decided which- although I do really want to read Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon, Ice Cream for Breakfast by Laura Jane Williams and The Summer of Impossible Things by Rowan Coleman.

You cannot go on holiday to a sunny country without a good pair of sunglasses. My favourites are my rose gold mirrored RayBans in the picture above. However I always make sure to take a second pair, which I use for going to the beach or if we go exploring one day and my glasses are likely to get dropped or dirty so that I don't break my expensive ones.

A Sunhat
Disclaimer: I'm not actually taking this to Portugal because I actually bought it for my trip to Santorini later in the year but come on I had to photograph it. That being said, I do not like to have the sun in my face so this is a good way to keep my face in the shade but allow the rest of my body to get a tan.  They are also particularly good props for Instagram photos, I mean come on who doesn't like a good photo on holiday! This particular one is from Primark, I think you can get it in the UK but I got mine when I recently went to Dublin!

A Beach Coverup
I am not the most confident of people but then I don't like this stopping me from getting a tan on holiday when I have spent so much money to be there so a cover up is a must. These allow me to get down to the beach or pool feeling comfortable and then I am able to take it off when I am situated and in my 'I don't give a crap when anyone thinks' state of mind! I prefer ones that are easy to get on an off and that are made of a lightweight fabric so I don't overheat whilst I have it on. The white one in the picture is from Next and it is made of a super thin linen material so it is perfect for the job!

Comfortable Bikini
As I said above I am not the most skinny or confident person and therefore having the right bikini for my body type is hugely important. I have found that the bikini which suits me the best is a bandeau style top which I am able to wear with or without the straps, this is good when trying to avoid the dreaded tan lines. Then for the bottom half I prefer slightly high waisted bottoms as then it covers more of my hips and my tummy which is the area that I do not like as much. The one pictured was from Boux Avenue last year and it is the most comfortable and flattering bikini that I own so it is always the first thing to be packed!

Flamingo Pool Float
This is obviously not essential but my sister and I really wanted to take one on holiday. I had seen them around but last year but, generally all of those that I saw were really overpriced. However, this year Primark brought out a range of pool floats so obviously we had to buy one. We got the flamingo ring float and it was £10, stay tuned and hopefully you might see some holiday snaps with this fellow!

What are your must haves when travelling abroad?
